Area from Coordinates

Paste the beacon coordinates from a survey plan to get the area, perimeter and the bearing and distance of each side.

Copy the coordinates from your survey plan in order around the boundary. Separate values with spaces, commas or tabs. Do not repeat the first beacon at the end.

Plane computation on the projected grid of —. Bearings are whole-circle bearings from grid north. Areas are grid areas; on a scale-factor projection they can differ slightly from ground areas.

Indicative result, not a survey. Only a plan prepared and signed by a registered surveyor is valid for title, legal or design purposes.

How it works

The area is calculated with the coordinate (shoelace) method from the beacon coordinates in order around the boundary. Each side's bearing and distance comes from the coordinate differences.

If the area you get differs noticeably from the area stated on the plan, check that you entered every beacon in order. A real discrepancy is a reason to commission a check survey before you buy.
