Cut-and-Fill Volume Estimator

Earthwork volumes by the grid method or the average-end-area method.

Rows from top to bottom, values left to right, separated by spaces. Every row needs the same number of values.
One level for a flat platform.
Optional. Increase in volume when excavated material is loosened.

Grid method: four-corner averaging per cell, with cells that cross the formation level split in proportion. Average end area: V = (A₁ + A₂) ÷ 2 × L between sections. Volumes in cubic metres.

Indicative result, not a survey. Only a plan prepared and signed by a registered surveyor is valid for title, legal or design purposes.

Calculated in your browser. Nothing you enter is stored or sent.

How it works

The grid method suits building platforms and car parks: enter spot levels on a regular grid and a formation level. The average-end-area method suits roads, drains and embankments with cross-sections at known chainages.

Both are planning estimates. For tenders and payment, volumes should come from a measured topographic survey and a design surface.
